Why the One Earring Trend is Secretly Driving Me Nuts

I'm OCD.  Not in the textbook medical sense, but in the "I'm OCD because I can't deal with things not being perfectly even" way.  When I heard about the giant one chandelier earring trend I was actually enamored with the idea.  One fabulous earring?  Sounds great!  It seemed like such a chic and I'm-to-cool-for-the-rules way of doing things.  A fabulous twist to the typical dangling earrings (that are so big I could use one as a light fixture.)  That is, until I bought the July issue of Lupita Nyong'o Vogue.  My OCD kicked in full force.
That's not to say I didn't love the looks.  In my opinion this issue of Vogue is one of the best in a while.  I was starting to get bored with the magazine because it seemed like all of the issues where so similar, blending into shoot after shoot of the same.  This July Vogue, however, has punch and spunk.  The Cara Delevigne by Grace Coddington shoot was one of my faves in a while, and I loved the different photographer/stylist duo for the cover.  The whole magazine seemed updated and fresh, reviving my faith in Anna and her clique.
However, the one earring thing, despite how much I love the idea of the look, is killing me.  It's so hard because I want to fall head over heels for the whole one-earring fabulousness, but I can't.  Every time I see the photos, that one, beautiful dangling earring taunts me from the pages.  The unevenness of the whole situation is terribly bothersome.
I guess that's what fashion is, though, trying new things that are uncomfortable.  Pushing boundaries and learning to enjoy every minute of it.  As for now, I'll keep both earrings on until I'm okay with ditching one and walking around lopsided all day.

P.S. On that note, if the earring you wear truly is as gigantic as the ones in Vogue, would you not feel sideways all day long?  It seems like your equilibrium would become vastly unsettled.  Anyways, what do you think?

  2. I like one earring but only if my hair is loose on the side and it gives it balance. Lovely post and keep up the great work.
